3 Kupwara students complete Hifz-e-Quran via online classes

Kupwara, June 30: When most of the students across Jammu and Kashmir seem dissatisfied with the online mode of education, three students studying in Jamia Islamia Waripora in north Kashmir’s Handwara Sub District have completed memorisation of holy Quran (Hifz-e-Quran) through online mode few days back.

Jamia Islamia has been rendering both modern as well as religious education to its students from last several years and at present more than three hundred students across three districts of north Kashmir are on roll in this institution.

One among the three students who has achieved the feat is a 9th class student from Hangah Handwara. Basharat Hassan Bhat son of Ghulam Hassan Bhat had been admitted in class 5th in the year 2016 and since then he has been going through both modern as well as religious education at Jamia Islamia Waripora.

According to school officials Basharat had memorised twenty five chapters of holy Quran at school till the time lockdown was imposed this year. They said that soon after the closure of schools, students were offered online classes and during the course of time Basharat completed memorization of whole thirty chapters of holy Quran in the month of June.

“We had been looking forward to such a school where both religious as well as modern education could be rendered to students and once I came across about Jamia Islamia Waripora, I admitted Basharat here,” Tariq Hassan Bhat elder brother of Basharat told Greater Kashmir.

“I am really thankful to the school administration and especially Hifiz department which continued online classes during lockdown. It is because of the endeavour put forth by teachers of Basharat that he is now being called Hafiz-I-Quran. I am hopeful that he would also excel in modern education by qualifying NEET after 12th,” he added.

Meanwhile Hilal Ahmad who teaches Urdu at Jamia Islamia said that Basharat is an extraordinary student who always is among first five toppers in class. He said that Basharat has not only proved his mettle by memorizing whole Quran but he is also an excellent student of modern education.

Another alumni Abrar Ashraf Khan son of Mohammad Ashraf Khan resident of Diver Lolab has also completed memorization of holy Quran during the prevailing lockdown via online mode.

Abrar a student of class 10th had been admitted in the year 2016 in class 5th and since then he has continued to memorize holy Quran.

At the time of lockdown in April this year he had memorized twenty four chapters and since then he has regularly taken online classes.

According to his parents, Abrar has also taken regular classes from a local aalim to complete the memorization of holy Quran. Abrar completed memorization of whole thirty chapters on 21th of June.

The youngest among three Ziyad Ul Mujtaba who hails from Dorsa Lolab has also achieved the feat. Ziyad is a class 7th student who comes from a middle class family. His family yearns to see Abrar a medical doctor after he passes 12th class.

Meanwhile principal of the school Ghulam Nabi Khamosh told Greater Kashmir that their endeavor has been to render both religious as well as modern education to students so that they can compete in the challenging competitive scenario.

He said that the students at Jamia Islamia avail hostel facility and every student has to pay thirty five hundred including tuition fee per month. He said that students are being rendered Hifiz classes after Fajar prayers till 8:30 am in morning and after that they appear in modern education classes up to 4:00 pm.

He said that after Magrib till Isha prayers, students are again engaged in Hifiz classes. “We want to produce such students who can cope up with scientific temperament of society, that is why we have been rendering both types of education at our school. (GK)
