Assistant Professor applicants urge LG, CM to ‘immediately halt interviews’ at Kashmir University

Assistant Professor applicants urge LG, CM to ‘immediately halt interviews’ at Kashmir University

Applicants for various positions of Assistant Professor have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to “immediately put a halt” on upcoming interviews at the University of Kashmir, citing apprehensions of favouritism at the fag end of the Vice-Chancellor’s tenure, as reported by KDC.

A delegation of applicants told this news agency that the Kashmir University’s recruitment section has “hastily” lined up interviews for Open positions of Assistant Professor in various departments from 11th of November 2024 to 14th November 2024.

“These interviews should have been held much earlier. Since the VC’s tenue is now coming to an end just a few months from now, it is both unethical and illegal to hold interviews at this juncture,” the applicants said, appealing to LG, who is the Chancellor of the University, to direct the Vice-Chancellor to “halt the interview process immediately.”

A similar appeal has been made by the applicants to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is the pro-Chancellor of the University.

“We fear that these interviews have been hastened up to favour a few blue-eyed candidates, some of whom have direct relations in bureaucratic circles,” said the delegation. “We want the recruitment process to be fully transparent. The timing of holding these interviews, just at fag end of VC’s tenure, is questionable and suspicious. No previous VC has conducted interviews at the fag end of his/her career”.

The delegation also said they are meeting local legislators and impress upon them to raise this issue in the Assembly session.
